SCORING

The scores for each week will account for 60% of the total score during the finals. The score of the participant during the on-the-spot challenge on October 6, 2007 will account for 40% of the total score.

Note: The guest judge's pick of the week does not have any bearing on the scores of the participants.

CHALLENGE RULES and MECHANICS

  • Every week, 3 contestants with the lowest score will be eliminated

  • Each participant is allowed only one (1) entry per week.

  • All entries must be NEW and specifically made for the Scrappin' Moms Idol Challenge.

  • Digital layouts are not allowed.

  • Failure to submit layouts on time will mean an automatic elimination from the challenge

  • All entries will be displayed publicly in the Scrappin’ Moms Gallery only on the day of the announcement of the finalists for the next round

  • Judging will be done by the Scrappin’ Moms and a Guest Judge.  A worksheet will be utilized to ensure each entry is judged based on the challenge criteria.

  • Entries submitted to the challenge cannot be posted in any gallery or blog as long as the participant is still in the running for Scrappin' Moms Idol. Violation of this rule will result in automatic disqualification. However, layouts may be posted after the grand finals on October 6, 2007.

GRAND FINALS

  • By the end of Week 6 of the challenge, there will only be twelve (12) remaining finalists

  • The Challenge Finale will be held during the Scrapfest4 on October 6, 2007

  • Each finalist will be provided a set of materials for the final challenge

  • They will only be given three (3) hours to finish their layouts

  • Theme and requirements for the finale will be given along with the announcement of the 12 finalists

  • The finalist should be present during the Scrapfest4 on October 6, 2007.  Failure to appear during the event will result to automatic disqualification.

ELIGIBILITY & LIMITATIONS

 

The challenge is open to all Filipinos, in or out of Manila, with the expectation that they will be present at the Scrapfest on October 6, 2007, in the event that they make it to the Grand Finals. If you don't think that you can make it to the Scrapfest, please give the opportunity to those who can be there. Participants and winner(s) must be at least 18 years with a valid email address. Scrappin’ Moms, our Guest Judge(s), the Challenge’s participating sponsors are not eligible to join the challenge.

 

All submissions must be original designs intended for this challenge.  Layouts submitted to the challenge remains exclusive to the Scrappin’ Moms gallery for the duration of the contest. Neither can they be posted, submitted or entered for a website or for publication until the end of the contest period.  Each contestant guarantees that their submission is not duplicated from any other publication, individual or copyrighted work.

 

GROUNDS FOR DISQUALIFICATION
  1. Violating any one of the challenge rules indicated in each round.
     - Please read the instructions indicated in each round. When in doubt, ask! There's no harm in asking. The forum is always open for any questions you might have. It is also a good idea to always check the forum for any questions the other participants might have.
  2. Incomplete information when emailing entries.
     - Always make sure that you email the complete information needed when sending your entries.
  3. Digital layouts
     - Digital layouts are not allowed unless otherwise indicated. Photo enhancement is allowed.
  4. Delayed submission
     - If we do not receive your layouts by the indicated deadline, you are automatically disqualified from the contest. So email early!
  5. Direct scraplifting
     - Direct scraplifting is not allowed. You may use some portions as inspirations but copying verbatim is not allowed. Following a sketch is also not allowed unless the sketch is your own. This is the time to unleash your creativity!
  6. Submitting a layout previously created or submitted to other contests.
     - The layouts you submit must be created specifically for this contest.
  7. Posting your layouts in online galleries, websites and blogs or submitting it to other contests.
     -Your entry must not have been submitted for any other sites, contests or challenges. It must be made for this specific contest and not posted on any other sites including your blogs. You may, however post your layouts in other websites or your blogs after October 6, 2007.

DECISIONS

 

By participating in the Challenge, participants agree to be bound by the decisions of Scrappin’ Moms. Persons who violate any rule, gain unfair advantage in participating in the Challenge, or obtain winner status using fraudulent means will be disqualified. Un-sportsmanlike, disruptive, annoying, harassing or threatening behavior is prohibited.

 

Scrappin’ Moms will interpret these rules and resolve any disputes, conflicting claims concerning the rules or the Challenge and Scrappin’ Mom’s decisions concerning such disputes shall be final. If the conduct or outcome of the Challenge is affected by human error, any mechanical malfunctions or failures of any kind, intentional interference or any event beyond the control Scrappin’ Moms, Scrappin’ Moms reserves the right to terminate this Challenge, or make such other decisions regarding the outcome as Scrappin’ Moms deems appropriate. All decisions made by Scrappin’ Moms are final.

 

Scrappin’ Moms has the right to change or adjust any of the contest rules where it deems appropriate.  Should there be less than 30 entrants at the start of this challenge, again, Scrappin’ Moms have the final say on its adjustments

 

What is the SCRAPPIN' MOMS IDOL?

It is a 2-month long challenge being organized by the Scrappin’ Moms.

 

The main objective is to display the creativity and artistry of the Filipino scrapbooker.  This is a chance for us to showcase the degree of talent that is very abundant here and comparable to our international counterparts.

 

The Filipino’s innovativeness in creating layouts will be displayed through all these challenges.  Resourcefulness abounds and this will truly be a uniquely Filipino “flava” -- scrapbooking at its finest.

ALI EDWARDS

For designer and author Ali Edwards, it is all about capturing life & creating art.

Lifestyle Editor for Creating Keepsakes scrapbooking magazine and author of A Designer's Eye for Scrapbooking series of books, Ali's unique creative approach focuses on celebrating the everyday joys and challenges we all face in our lives. "I started scrapbooking in 2002 as a way to organize all the stuff I collected after the birth of my son. It has become so much more than an organizational process for me - it has let me find my own personal passion and voice."

An advocate for not making things more complicated than they need to be & embracing imperfection, Ali shares cool concepts, design, and  project ideas in her monthly Creating Keepsakes column: Studio A. Look for her newest book Life Artist to be released in the fall of 2007.

Ali enjoys conducting workshops around the county and  internationally, encouraging scrapbookers to tell their stories and  enjoy the process. She maintains a blog about life and art (and the concept of "life artists") at http://www.aliedwards.typepad.com

Ali lives in Eugene, Oregon. She enjoys travel, reading, and spending time with her husband and son.

CD MUCKOSKY

CD Muckosky began scrapbooking about 2 years ago, excited for the way it combined all of her different creative passions into one form of expression. She jumped into the scrapboking industry in 2006 when she won her title as Creating Keepsakes first ever Scrapbooker of the year! She now writes a column for the magazine called CD's playground and keeps a blog on the CK website. C.D. has a unique creative process, combining what she calls "the best of both worlds" using a mix of both digital and traditional scrapbooking methods.

From her heartfelt journaling to meaningful little details, her designs are filled with whimsy and heart. She is passionate about inspiring others to reach a little farther and try something new through their own art. A stay at home mom to three happy little girls, and wife to her high school sweetheart, Cam, C.D. Muckosky Loves the joys found in the simple times together with family and friends. They reside in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada.

THE CHALLENGE
GRAND FINALE CHALLENGE - October 6, 2007

Theme: Below are 3 themes, one of which will be the actual theme for the final challenge. The actual theme will be announced on the day of the challenge.

The choices are:

  1. "What Makes Me Happy"
  2. "My Happy Memories"
  3. "My Dream"

Photos: There are no limitations to the number of photos or the photo sizes needed for this challenge. It's all up to you. The only limitation being that no digitally-made text should be present in your photos (meaning you cannot add title, journaling, quotes etc to them).

Final Challenge Requirements:

  • You are required to use everything in the kit, but you may also add anything to enhance your layout further.
  • You must use at least one item bought from any of the suppliers on that day. Submit your receipt together with your entry.

Pre-Challenge Session:
Grand Finale participants will gather in the designated challenge area 1 hour before the start of the challenge. During this period:

  • The challenge kit will be distributed.
  • The final challenge theme will be announced.
  • The specific challenge mechanics will be given.
  • All questions regarding the final challenge will be entertained.
  • Last minute purchases of materials/embellishments may be made.

No questions regarding the Grand Finale Challenge will be entertained

until the Pre-Challenge Session.
