Have I told everyone that I love altered art? Yes, I do. I love admiring them and I am in awe seeing the creativity of the artist. Imagine, turning a simple piece of jar into a lampshade, a light bulb turning into a photo holder. What the heck were they thinking coming up with such ideas!
Recently, I got inspired looking at this blog, Artz de Scrap. This blog focuses on showing items that can be re-purposed and with much flair. And so I decided to take the plunge!
I made an ALTERED CANVASS! It’s my first time to do so and I am quite surprised with the final result. They say love your own and I do love what I’ve altered.
With this newfound inspiration, I’d like to change the challenge for this month. The challenge:
Theme: All About You!
Create an ALTERED CANVASS using the theme provided
- Use acrylic paint or gel medium on your canvass
- You must be able to create texture in your canvass
o In my sample, I used a wire mesh and I painted it with acrylic paint. This resulted in a grid-like texture on my canvass
- Maximize your canvass. The canvass must NOT be totally covered with paper or your other elements.
Create a one-page layout. You can use any pre-primed canvass frames available at the local bookstores. You may use any size but NO SMALLER than 8.5 x 11.
This must be fresh new layouts and made solely for this challenge.
This challenge will be judged by a panel from the Scrapbytes Team based on the following criteria:
Overall Design & Craftsmanship - 35% Does it create a visual impact? Do the techniques used enhance the overall design?
Originality and Creativity - 35% Does it have an original or creative theme and use of products? Is there a distinct style to the designer? Is it unique?
Photo Quality - 10% Do they tell a story? Are they crisp and clear? Are they expressive? Is the focus on the photos in the layout?
Journaling - 10% Does the journaling provide adequate and valuable information about the photos? Is the journaling meaningful and easy to read?
Challenge Requirements - 10% Does it adhere to the requirements of the challenge?
Total - 100%

April Challenge Winner
Fun! Fun! Fun! Congratulations Jona Panesa, for winning in the April Challenge with her layout “Water Fun!” The bright colors, the action shot, the contrast of masculine and feminine colors requires a second look for this layout. And the scrolls was a great accent that matched her theme.

Joanne’s Pick of the Month
This month’s pick by Joanne is Rachelle Tolentino’s “Sun, Sea and Sand.” Rachelle mimicked the bech scene in her layout by creating a horizon and the beachfront. The sun using safety pins for rays was a cute touch as well as the addition of the shells with the name of the place. Makes you want to go to the beach right away! |

Honorable Mention
Helga Vergara's "Spot the Not" photos were great! Taking an underwater shot of each of the family member was a different approach and merits a special mention.

Honorable Mention
Liezl Arellano's photos in "Take the Plunge" is another awesome action shot. The captured moment was very symbolic of the fun they were having at that time.
