Catherine Bautista - Travel Album
|

How do I start? This is one project I thought of doing ever since we started travelling (Gio and I). Post fact, I think I’m glad I did it but the timeline almost made me give up and I think I struggled to reach the stars here. I’m so stressed and exhausted but at the same time very very happy.
So, for the book inspiration I chose the classic “Around the world in 80 days” by Jules Verne. It is an amazing book and speaks so much about the experience of Phileas Fogg and Passepartout travelling the world in 80 days. This inspired me because I wanted so much to document the highlights and ephemeras I have collected from all our travels. It’s been stuck in individual envelopes which were collecting dust already.
So for the front cover – this is actually one of the images found on the multiple editions of the book. Acknowledgement goes to: www.schule.de/englisch/auster/group5/outline.htm where I lifted the picture. I basically replaced “the world in 80” to “asia in 25 days” for the title. I printed the image in vellum and placed it on top of a light blue cardstock.
Page 1 – I was so inspired by paper piecing and since the parachute is the highlight of my first page I decided to paper piece it. I also used foam adhesive so the balloon looked like it’s floating. The circles border were also made from my scraps. I just added stickles here and there. On the back of the front cover I attached my first ATC that was altered and I attached to it a grungeboard butterfly that was embossed, painted and sanded.
Pages 2-3 – this served as an introduction to the whole album. The left portion shows the journaling which will introduce the audience to the inspiration and content of the album. The right portion basically shows the map of southeast asia and drawn there are arrows that flow from the Philippines to the different countries visited. This is where I attached my ATC that was stamped with “Go Explore.”
Pages 4-13 – each pair of succeeding pages showed one country we’ve visited. All of the left pages contain the zoomed version of the map with arrows pointing to the country in focus. The left side also contains all of the plane tickets and other various tickets from museum visits, train rides, etc. The right portion contained the pictures. What’s worth highlighting is the canvas pocket that I did – this is the first time I tried it and am loving it. I painted it with acrylic and then scattered stickles over it. Loved the effect.
For my last page – it actually shows the Oct 2009 calendar and the map of china because we are soon leaving for China! What’s great about this is I can keep adding pages of our future travels!
ATC Cards – this is where I had fun. I actually finished all the ATC cards first. I altered all of them. I basically started with a white cardstock. I did stamped canvass, resist stamping, grungeboard, crackle and modge podged them! Totally fun!
Journalling: I am no Phileas Fogg, who, for 20,000 pounds, will go around the world in 80 days. But seeing the world is definitely a life long dream for me and Gio. Exploring southeast asia is definitely a small step towards our dream. Turn the pages to catch a glimpse of our journey together!
Materials used: Ranger and TH distress inks, masks, stickles, crackle paints, paint dabbers, tickets, grungeboard, Sakura gel pens, Stamps (IB, Technique Tuesday, OA, Hero Arts, Font werks), PPS (Teresa Collins, WRMK, DCWV, all about scrapbooking), Maya road chipboards, felts.
